Violet is a fun-loving and normal 11 year old. But what you don’t know is that she gets stared at a lot when she is with her family. She is half black and half white and meanwhile her whole family is white. Her mom and her sister have blonde hair and blue eyes while she has dark brown hair and brown eyes. Her grandparents are white too and she is tired of the stares. Even though her black dad is dead, Violet forms an alliance with his mother, her paternal grandmother. Violet finds that her black grandma was going to be at an art gallery and she and her grandma interact and then it goes bad when her mom and her grandma argue. She now knows that she is the one thing that must bring them together and by doing that means spending some time with her grandmother.
I felt like I was a character in this book, moving with the plot as this main character finds out the twist between black and white. This realistic fiction will make you feel anger, happiness, and joyous outcomes as you follow the author’s tall tale of 11 year old Violet.
