Some Highlights From the Year...
We had many fun and exciting things happen in our classes during the Spring of 2012. Some of the highlights include:
- 4th graders created a "Talking Building of Hartford" project. This project was showcased at the Connecticut Educators Computer Association Technology Expo on May 2nd.
- 5th graders read historical novels about the Colonial Days and The American Revolution. They participated in 6 literature discussions where they made connections and drew conclusions about what life was like in the lat 18th century. In addition, they worked with Ms. Hoffman from the Bushnell to develop a Reader's Theater script using the novel "My Brother Sam is Dead" for inspiration.
- 6th grade worked on a unit about the "Ancient Civilizations of the Americas." They studied a variety of groups including the Mayas, Incas, Aztecs, and the Mound Builders. One of the multimedia products invovled creating a newscast reporting live from the scene of an actual Mound.
- Twelve students participated in the National History Day state contest on Saturday, April 28th. Congratulations to everyone who did an amazing job for National History Day 2012! (We are already looking forward to next year's competition!)
Talking Buildings ProjectA small group of students traveled to the Legislative Building in downtown Hartford on Wednesday, May 2nd to share their Photostory project at the CECA Technology Expo.
